Announcing...

The engagement of Michael Bair and Susan Goryl.

On Sunday November 8, 1998, on an old piece of driftwood, Michael proposed to Susan. The two were visiting the Pacific coast in Long Beach, Washington.

The date is set for Saturday, October 9, 1999 at Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Ann Arbor, Michigan. The ceremony will begin at Eleven O’clock in the Morning. The reception will follow later in the day, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Briarwood Circle, Ann Arbor, Michigan. The festivities will begin at Six O’clock in the Evening. All readers are invited to attend both the ceremony and the reception. Please mark your calendars!

Update

How’s the planning going? This has been the most frequently asked question of the couple over the past several months. At this point in time, the church and reception hall have been chosen and reserved (see article above). The wedding party has been chosen. The bride and bridesmaids are searching tirelessly for the perfect dresses. The colors for the wedding have been chosen to be Hunter Green and Peach. If you are interested in seeing the top contestants, check out the bride’s homepage at:

The groom is working hard to find a tuxedo shop that operates nationally. He is also busy at planning the honeymoon. The possible destinations are Kauai Island of Hawaii and Telluride Ski Resort of Colorado. The couple is wrestling with the invitation stationary. And the bride’s family is researching information on the wedding front for cakes, florists, and DJ’s. As you can see, there is much work to do and many decisions still to be made.

Meet the Couple

Michael was born and raised in Beulah, Michigan, a small town outside of Traverse City. He has four brothers and sisters. His mother, Ilse, is a nurse. She was born and raised in Germany, moving to the States as a teenager to seek her fortune. Michael’s father, Les, is an insurance agent. He was born and raised in the town of Bear Lake, near Beulah. Michael attended the University of Michigan and majored in Electrical Engineering. He is now working at Intel as a Debugger.

Susan was born in Detroit, and raised in Sterling Heights, a suburb of Detroit. Her mother, Mary Jane, is currently a Computer Tots teacher at St. Lawrence School. She was born and raised in Detroit. Susan’s father, Carl, is a Warranty Specialist at Chrysler; also born and raised in Detroit. Susan attended the University of Michigan. She majored in Industrial and Operations Engineering. She is now working at Intel as an Operations Manager for the D1B Manufacturing facility.

Susan and Michael met several times, through mutual friends, while they at U of M, including a run-in at a computer lab during their freshman year. But it was not until they started work at Intel (on the same day) that they became friends and eventually started dating. The rest of the story - well, it is still in the making…

The Wedding Party

The bridesmaids were selected from friends and sisters of the bride.

Matron of Honor: Tracy Breinlinger - Met Sue about 2 years ago, in Oregon. Sue’s favorite shopping partner.

Tom Maciukenas- Met Mike about 2 years ago at Intel. Tom is always eager to do, see, solve, make, or play anything; yet he shies from cleaning his house.

Mike St. Clair - Met Mike about a 2 years ago as an intern in Mike’s work group. Best known as "Little Mike", for having weak bones, and for putting up with loads of cross-cube abuse at work.

Registries

Right now, the couple plans to remain in the house that Sue currently owns. The overall color scheme is neutral. The bedroom and bathroom are hunter green and maroon. The kitchen is navy blue. The family/living room is a combination of these, with the furniture being Cherry wood.

The stores that the couple registered at are the following, with brief descriptions of what is there.

Sears - Tools

J.C. Penny’s - Crystal, Bathroom Accessories, Small Furniture, Luggage

HomePlace - Towels, Linens, Pots and Pans, Kitchen Gadgets, Small Appliances

If you are purchasing an item through one of these stores, the couple has requests that you order from the Portland, Oregon store, so that there will be no need for shipping the items across the country. Thank you.
