Kauai, Hawaii
Left: Sunrise on the first morning - as viewed from our patio. Right: The Spouting Horn - a lava tube - with a water flow.
Day 1: Waimea Canyon - Hawaii's Grand Canyon
Day 2: Catamaran ride to the Na Pali Coast - this is only accessible by boat, plane, or a 22 mile hike!
Left: More of Na Pali Coast Right: The Catamaran cruise continues to Lehau Rock.
More of Lehau Rock
The cruise now takes us to Ni'ihau (or the Forbidden Island). We can't land because only the 250 natives that live on the island are allowed there - but we can snorkel!
The end of day 2: back at the condo - sunset.
Day 3: Kayaking the Wailua River. First we hiked from the river in to some "secret waterfalls" that we got to swim under (there were about 40 other tourists there, too!). Then we hiked from the river into the Fern Grotto.
The condo we stayed in was located at Poipu - a town which centered around Poipu Crater, shown here.
Then we came across a rope swing into the river - of course, Michael had to try it!
Day 4: Took it easy - lounged on the beaches near the condo, did some shopping and snorkeling. Nothing picture worthy...
Day 5: Horseback riding at Princeville Stables. We did an all day range-ride to some more of those "secret waterfalls" !
Playing under the "secret waterfall" we rode to.
After horseback riding, we headed to Ke'e Beach, where we hiked 2 miles of the Kalau trail (this is the 22 mile trail that leads to the Na Pali Coast).
Sunset - looking at the Na Pali coast from the Kalau Trail, which is on the north side of the coast.
More hiking on the Kalau Trail.
Sunset on Ke'e Beach.
Day 6: Hiking in Koke'e State Park. We hiked out to a pointe (see picture on right). Once we got there, we got cool views of the Na Pali Coast from the south side - despite the rain!
Rain over the ocean.
And that's it! Day 7 was spend shopping and flying home!
I hope you enjoyed the pictures!
